Wicklow's surprise national hurling league victory over Derry pleased manager Casey O'Brien.
The Garden County had already been relegated after losing all four of their previous Division 2A outings but produced a magnificent display in Owenbeg on Sunday to close their campaign with a win and dash the Oak Leaf's promotion dreams.
"It's unbelievable," their manager enthuses in The Wicklow People. "We had a little bit of bad luck with injuries, suspensions and what have you. The lads kept going, they kept trying.
"We had a couple of team meetings, we had a few blow-outs. We put our hearts on the sleeves and we said a few things to each other and we got the reaction.
"Training for the last week was brilliant and they brought that intensity to the field. Nobody gave us a chance. Derry were looking to get into a league final and we turned the league tables on their head.
"We've six weeks now to get ready for the Christy Ring and we've a couple of guys to come in. Our main aim this year is the Christy Ring and we're going to keep going and we're going to get it right."
