Competition for places pleases O'Connor

Joint-manager Gerry O'Connor says there is intense competition for places in the Clare team for tomorrow's All-Ireland U21HC semi-final against Antrim.

With Shane O'Donnell fit again after recovering from the hand injury he sustained in the Munster final win over Cork, centre back Conor Cleary is the only absentee after suffering a similar injury when playing for Kilmaley in the county SHC last weekend.

"Such is the competition for places that nobody can take a chance," O'Connor is quoted in the Clare Champion.

"Players are battling extremely hard to get into the team, to get onto the match-day panel. Guys who feel that they might not be in the first 15 will push to get there. That's the sort of mind-set and culture that exists and it means that there is huge competition for places.

"The whole process revolves on producing a performance and if one is not performing, then you don't stay in the team."
