Austin Gleeson has been given the green light to play for Waterford in next month's All-Ireland SHC final against Galway.

Reports have emerged this evening that referee James Owens has informed the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) that he is happy with how he officiated Sunday's semi-final at Croke Park, meaning the Mount Sion man will face no retribution for the incident between himself and Cork's Luke Meade.

Last year's Hurler of the Year appeared to pull off Meade's helmet during the first-half of the Deise men's 4-19 to 0-20 victory over the Rebels but did not receive any punishment from Owens.

Once a referee informs the CCCC that they acted on a particular incident, the case is closed and no suspensions can be handed down.

The Wexford official did send off Conor Gleeson during the game and, as things stand, the Fourmilewater midfielder is set to miss out for Derek McGrath's side against the Tribesmen on September 3, although Waterford are expected to appeal the suspension.
