Louth vs Wicklow

(Oldest Posts First)

Louth and Wicklow kick off their summer this weekend when they meet in the first round of the Leinster senior football championship. With the winners taking on Meath in the quarter-finals next month, can Johnny Magee's charges spring an upset against the Wee County?

This will be the thread used to discuss Sunday's game at Parnell Park.

Looking forward to this match. Wicklow are massive underdogs and Louth been huge favorites never sits well with the Wee County. Louth have a great record against the Garden County. Both sides have played each other 18 times. Louth have won 13 times, there have been 2 draws and Wicklow have won three times. Wicklow have only beaten Louth once in the championship in the last 100 years and that was in Aughrim in 1987. The last time these sides played in the Championship was in 2007. Louth over came Wicklow after three matches.

I will be going to this game to catch a glimpse of opposition. Looking forward to game (but not the venue) anyway I expect a return to the venue to face a resurgent Louth. Which I fear more than any other county on Meath side of draw. Looking forward to the real start of summer.

All form this season points to a Louth win, Wicklow's only competitive win this season was at home in the league v London while Louth for promoted to div2, so it would be a bit of a shock of Wicklow were to turn them over.

haha, always harder to say from the outside! but honestly wicklow are possibly the worst team in ireland at the moment. louth will go at them and their firepower will be far too difficult for the garden to contain.

The last time Louth played Wicklow in the Championship in 2007 it took them three matches to get over the Garden County. Anyway not long to go. I have the Louth flag hanging out the house, my Louth jersey is rearing to go and the cornbeef sambo's and flask of tae all packed for Sunday.

Wicklow are a really bad side at the moment, were awful in the league. Can only see Louth win this by at least 8 points.

I have seen Wicklow and Louth several times over the past 18 months. I'd be very surprised if Louth don't absolutely steamroll them.

I don't think Wicklow will progress under their current management. Among other issues, they way they set up is as amateur as it gets.

I expect something similar to the 0-15 to 1-2 beating Louth gave Wicklow in the league last Spring, when Wicklow scored a single point from play. Louth have progressed significantly since then, while Wicklow are not progressing at all...
