Kerry - The tradition and the History

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

As a Dub, I honestly cringe at some of the stuff posted by my fellow Dubs, seriously. The day after Kerry lose to their biggest rivals, a thread is opened questioning their tradition.........yet somehow the Kerry posters are the bad guys because they choose to stand up for their team? ~PHS

My god these Kerry people are the biggest sore losers ever, they get bet by the rebels and they all come out of nowhere to abuse everyone and tell everyone how superior they are to everyone else. They have no class it's true what uncle O Se says about them.

You love us really! ;)

I have to say in all fairness to Ciarraí fans, they were very gracious in defeat last September.

Liam if I thought it was a typo I wouldn't have pulled you on it, I'm not that sad, but I accept now that it was, fair play!

vinny murphy played hurling for kerry and they wanted him to play football too as he was starring in the county championship down there

He wanted to play for Kerry not the other way round

he wanted to play hurling for kerry yes and so did corcoran ,o dwyer and o brien want to play hurling for dublin.
as for football he said he could have played for kerry and won an all ireland or two but he said he would rather two more years with the dubs and thats what he di

He was never going to play for Kerry and was told that by Kerry management he went back to play for Dublin then

thats lies he was all but formaly asked after having a great year in the kerry championship but said no matter how many all irelands with kerry he would win he would rather the chance of playing for the dubs in front of the hill again

Your dead right kelf, i should have said dub/offaly, regardless the point i was making was no province had more than 2 teams that had any realistic chance of winning the AI. And ulsterman, well i would rather be a sore loser than to be just a loser like your good self ;) anyways, state of origin is on, im off to the pub!!

Real Kerry Fan

If my granny had ***** she would be my uncle!

And a fun person to have at parties!

While playing in a Province with less teams and a lower standard made getting to the final stages easier, as pointed out you still had the obstacle of the best teams from the other Provinces to overcome before lifting Sam. Its one of those that you could argue good reasons for and against saying that Kerrys achievements during the old system are different to say teams like Down, Dublin etc but at the end of the day all that the record books really care about are whose name was on the cup come September and thats all that will be remembered in years to come.

Well Liam, Leinster had only for ages had only 2 good teams Dublin & Meath and they didnt stack up the all irelands!

I my opinion if you made a premier league format out of the Championship more often than not you would see Kerry lifting the trophy.
But only my opinion.

The thing is when it was straight knockout Kerry were well ahead of the other counties in terms of success.
Now with the back door we are up there again...5 titles in the noughties!

Quality will always come through no matter the format!

Why all the concern about Kerry succeeding or failing? They were in a drought from July 1987 until September 1997 and look what has happened since. Stop knocking success and steady yer own ships before you criticize a county that has served the GAA with class and distinction for over a century. As have all our counties, only some win more than others.

Woops for the record, in my honest opinion if the championship had always been straight knock out 32 teams ala FA Cup, no provinces, I honestly believe Kerry would still be the most successful county in the country, just maybe not by the distance they currently are. But I completely accept ye have produced the best players on the most consistent basis bar none.

Thank you for seeing the point and debating it rather than seeing what wasnt there like many of your over sensitive county men Woops!

I HOPE Kerry are not finished. 2010 were well beaten by Down and it looked ominous on that August day but the managed to pull themselves up from the bootlaces to nearly claim Sam in 2011. Like 2006 defeat to Cork, rumours of unrest etc. ,so called 'fans' booing their captain. I believe there may a problem but is it like before, players thinking they know more than management in positional play? That was settled in 2006 and to a lesser degree in 2009. Changes will have to be made and a scraping victory over Cork would not have solved the problem Therefore because of the defeat new blood can be brougt in which is only right because the future has to be thought of also as there a good few nearing the end of their intercounty career.A lot of sneering has taken place since last Sunday(in Kerry also) that is why I would love to see the 'experts' silenced.

Kerry have been the most dominant county this century.

For the most part of the last century Ulster and Connacht counties were a pushover, bar one exceptional Galway team and one good Cavan team. Leinster had one exceptional Offaly team and a good Dublin team that came along when Kerry were rebuilding. Kerry have 36 titles, their nearest rivals have all less than 10 when you discount Dublin teams that were backboned by Kerrymen and Mayomen. Province size or competition structure can't explain having four times as many titles as your nearest rival.

Good teams dominate and put numerous titles back to back, every so often there is a surprising winner as a result of luck, sheer determination or a weak Kerry team.

this had turned into a praise kerry for all they have won thread and the kerry lads are loving it trying to show off and slag other countys
so far they havent delivered on the pitch in this years championship and thats where the football is won or lost not in papers or in the media like they seem to be doing
if sounds like they think because they won all irelands after crashing out of munster in the past via the back door that its just going to happen naturaly again

Listen 36 titles is unreal but your time is coming to an end very soon, maybe there's one more push in this old team for Sam but after that that's it your done. Dublin have there house in order at long last and have the population to dominate forever.

Dublin always` had the population what good did it do

As i said in a previous thread, the Dubs wouldnt have anyone in their team over 5ft 5", if us culchies didnt move to the big smoke.

The dubs can rely their sucess on people from Mayo, kerry Galway Cork Donegal etc......

1193557 Kerry = one word...Benchmark! Struggling they may be, hands up who wants to meet them!!!

This is exactly it; "we're finished" but ask any GAA around the country would they want their team to meet kerry next, or for their provincial winners to have a months wait to meet a Kerry team that could have possibly built up a head of steam with 4 wins in 5 weeks.. I doubt it... wounded animal and all that.
