Minute Silence

Replying To PatdeVerse:  "If a GAA member who gave most of his life to foster the games dies, the very least he or she deserves is a minutes silence at a club final or inter-county match. It's common decency. I'm not in the least religious, but I do attend funerals of those I know who have died. It's called respect!"
Where do you draw the line between those who deserve one and those who don't?

Replying To border Gael:  "Very often you cannot hear what is being announced so you obviously are standing up and it could be 20 seconds before you realise it's a minutes silence. I think it's disgraceful and very inappropriate to cut it back to 20 seconds. After all its in memory of someone who has just lost theirs and very often long before they should be going. Money before people again. Grab all association."
Grab all association? Please explain how a minute silence has ANYTHING to do with money?

Can we now observe a one minutes silence please as a matter of respect for any Hoganstand member no longer with us, dead or alive.

But that's the thing though, a funeral is specifically for mourning and showing respect for the dead, you're not going to get an announcement of junior hurling results, so why should every sporting event these days have a eulogy for someone or remembrance of some tragic event?

You are welcome.
Could I now propose 20 seconds silence for the abysmal lack of respect we now show to the people who made our association great.

'Ard Dheis go raibh'?!

That would be some tribute!! Maybe play the Italian national anthem with it, like they do in Cork, great tune for a send off :)

The best way to show respect to someone who has died who has been a life long volunteer is to volunteer yourself in whatever capacity you can.

This reminds me of the scene from 'There is Something About Mary' where Ben Stiller's character picks up a weirdo hitchhiker who tells Ben about a 7 minute Ab workout he has created and Ben's character naively asks what happens if someone comes up with a 6 minute Ab workout, needless to say, the weirdo is not impressed.

Well, I'm with the weirdo on this one. It's a sad state of affairs if the GAA can't find an extra 40 seconds in their match programme to recognise people who have given some much of their free time to the sport.
