Ah I get you now. One of those quirks of language I suppose. Another thing that gets my goat is the Ulster semi final of 2012 against Tyrone. Donegal were up by THREE points before Durcan made that save from Penrose. They then pointed the resulting 45 and lost by 2 points. But the amount of commentators, journalists etc since then that reference that save as having saved us from defeat grinds my gears! Don't get me wrong - it was a bloody good save from Papa but if it had been a goal we'd have been looking at a replay and not a defeat. Many people spell their sir-name 'Welsh' rather than 'Walsh'

One used by a growing number of posters that annoys me is 'Jesus wept'. neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 13/03/2017 15:30:20 1966750 Link 0 |
Not GAA but I feel like putting my foot through the television when Ryle Nugent says, "Better now from Ireland" after one of our rugby players runs into the first tackler for the 15th time in a row and gains about 8 inches of ground. That sounds more like a Dick Van Dyke style pretend Cock-a-nee interpretation of how Dublin is pronounced!!

And I thought I was the only one throwing things at the t.v. Bring back Micheal O Muircheartaigh, he could make a nil all draw sound interesting. Llaw_Gyffes (Mayo) - Posts: 1113 - 13/03/2017 20:13:13 1966830 Link 1 |
Martin Carney feigning familiarity with players. He would regularly refer to Frank McGlynn and Neil Gallagher as Frankie and Neilly, never heard anyone in Donegal calling them that. HEREBENJI (Donegal) - Posts: 421 - 13/03/2017 20:29:38 1966834 Link 2 |

Heard him mentioned earlier but Darragh Maloney had an awful habit during the Pillar era of saying 'that's brilliant from Mossy Quinn' no matter what the score. Even if it was a rudimentary knock over from in front of the posts.

Exactly. You'd think that if Henry's handball hadn't happened we were just gonna sail on to the World Cup at our ease. People completely overlooked the fact that we were merely level and could just as easily blown it in extra time or on penalties. In fact that was probably THE most likely outcome knowing our luck. Another noble defeat.

To add to your "the next score is crucial" when Cyril Farrell used to say "Game on Ger". You don't need to remind us that game is in fact on Ger.

Marty Morrissey is a bit of a laugh and a nice fella but lord god he is an appalling commentator. It's got so that I have to mute the TV. Carney - has to be said nothing malicious in that - does he not realise we know what we're watching? theduke66 (Dublin) - Posts: 334 - 15/03/2017 11:16:02 1967208 Link 0 |
