n 50 years time when you look back at the results from 2001 - 2011 the team who gets to the quarter finals and semi finals are not remembered, only the teams who not only get to the final but win. So therefore, Galway have been the best team in Connacht over the last decade.

I didnt realise that looking back on something 50 years later is the be all and end all of marking sticks. What difference would that make? Wouldnt you still see that galway didnt even make a semi for 9 of those 10 years? Do you think winning a connacht title is better than getting to an all ireland final? Dont be fooling yourself, it is nothing more than a stepping stone, just another game on the way, like all the other provincial titles. It isnt worth anything if the provincial champions cant even make the semis. Do you honestly place winning a provincial and getting knocked out in the next round ahead of getting to the last 4 or last 2? The fact that you get a trophy for it doesnt change the fact that it is a qualifier for the quarter finals.

Would love to see us grabbing an overdue victory against someone other than London or New York, but just can't see it happening. Have a very young team at the moment. The return of Mulligan means we'll covert any frees within scoring range However Sligo have just too much experience, and there won't be any complacency after losing to Roscommon last year.

It will be no shock if Leitrim beat Sligo. Sligo are missing their best player David Kelly, whose father is from Mayo. Sligo will have to rely heavily on Mayo man Alan Costelloe for the scores and if Leitrim can man mark the Mayo man they will have a good shot at beating them.

I'm with O'gall here. I actually fancy Leitrim on Sunday. Leitrim usually have at least one really good game a summer. They have a decent manager in Mickey Moran and i think they will turn Sligo over.

It will not be one way traffic either way and whoever comes out it will be well battle hardened for the Rossies.

Ah.. you're back padyogall, see you've recovered from last years 'humiliation' at the hands of Sligo & Longford to return and start spouting nonsense once again. What pray tell has the fact that David Kellys father being from Mayo got to do with anything. ust because you were born in a stable, it doesnt make you a horse !!. Keep it relevant my friend. Duh !!"

Extra-time. Unlikely though. We've won two challenge games recently against Clare and Carlow but Sligo are a big step up.

I think Sligo will prevail.. Even without Kelly.. Leitrim will give a good account of themselves but I think Sligo have more scoring forwards (Costello, Brehony, McGee) than leirtim and should have 4 or 5 points to spare

I agree that Mayo man Alan Costello will be their main scoring threat but he can be easily cancelled out. Will O'Hara (Who is of Mayo heritage) have much of an impact on the Game?

Leitrim are 11/2 with some bookies, as i said over on the Leitrim thread alot has to fall into place for ye to win & indeed Leitrim are long over due a win other than NY/London.

Worth pointed out both managers are one defeat away from getting the boot.

Starts in earnest on Sunday, Sligo v Leitrim - best provincial championship last year 7 matches, 6 cracking contests. 4 different winners in the last 4 years. I think 2011 will be even better.

In 2010, Roscommon, Sligo, Mayo, Galway were all on a par in my view, Leitrim just 3-4 points behind them and dangerous opponents for any of them.

Think all will improve in 2011 except Sligo who will be about the same. However I still think Sligo at 100% are better than any other team in Connacht in 2011 (but won't be in 2012!). Sligo may struggle to get those peak performances.

My tuppence worth....

Sligo to beat Leitrim (but will need to do it first day out, will not beat them in Carrick)

Mayo to beat Galway (Galway over-dependence on Joyce, Meehan will finally take its toll against a rejuvenated Mayo)
Sligo to beat Roscommon (Don't think Roscommon will repeat last year, Sligo intent on beating them and playing at home will tell, Roscommon ahead of schedule last year)

Mayo Sligo final ( Mayo, but a far from confident vote....as I said, Sligo in full-flow would win, but feel they will have to have played well in two previous matches, won't do it a third day, not logical I know, just a feeling).

Anyway best of luck to all teams, even the hard-to-like Rossies!!

Although being from leitrim and ros are our main rivals it has to be said they are desperatly hard to like. Bad when they lose and even worse when they win!! its not the ros team-its their support
