Cork and Tipp have some exceptional players but playing as a team is a different story. Did you see Cork against Waterford? Diabolical. They only scored 1 point in 35 minutes of the first half and still beat Tipp. We were very close to a very good Monaghan team and beat offaly although not convincingly. We nebIgger looked like losing. If we don't beat Tipp in Breffni by 5 or 6 points we may forget about it. thegadfly (Cavan) - Posts: 290 - 27/06/2017 18:47:10 2006454 Link 0 |
Yet again Mayo get a handy draw. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3727 - 03/07/2017 08:50:43 2009351 Link 0 |
We have had more than enough bad luck down the years my friend. Clare away will be tricky so I am taking nothing for granted but Mayo should win if we play anything like we can.

clare lost to kerry unluckily a few weeks ago aided by a late goal.as mayo are well known bottlers and on the wane id say its the dream draw for clare. bring it on.. kavvie (Clare) - Posts: 505 - 03/07/2017 09:45:36 2009390 Link 1 |
Mayo did not have such a handy draw on Saturday against Derry, when they had to go to extra time to win the match. Mayo will win on Saturday. fainleog (Limerick) - Posts: 598 - 03/07/2017 09:58:49 2009399 Link 0 |
Hardly call Clare a handy draw especially when the other two options were Meath and an out of sorts Donegal.

the extra time ,short turnaround and the loss of durkan levels the playing field somewhat. and another interesting fact is that mayo have never won a qualifier away from home.. kavvie (Clare) - Posts: 505 - 03/07/2017 10:18:38 2009418 Link 1 |
A home draw, best we could ask for. Need massive improvement on last three games if we are to progress. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2141 - 03/07/2017 10:19:46 2009419 Link 0 |
Jimmy jammy , just like last year when they had Westmeath and Kildare. BTW how are Dublin going in Leinster , any tough matches in their path ;-) timmyhogan (UK) - Posts: 290 - 03/07/2017 10:37:13 2009450 Link 0 |
Our only hope is to wear the same colour jersey as Donegal and hopefully confuse them! ;) HighKings (Meath) - Posts: 271 - 03/07/2017 10:40:18 2009453 Link 1 |
I actually think Clare could very well beat Mayo, going very well at the moment and playing some lovely football. as_ky (Kerry) - Posts: 535 - 03/07/2017 11:23:19 2009483 Link 0 |
Donegal look confused enough as it is, we are not playing well at all. This looks like a game between two teams low on confidence so it is more than likely going to very close. Maybe the winner might start to gain some momentum.

.....apart from the last one they played v Westmeath in 2016, I think you will find that Croker is Dublin's home ground ;-) Durkans response to the eye gouge link that Deegan missed and Keegan being out could cost them. timmyhogan (UK) - Posts: 290 - 03/07/2017 11:40:02 2009498 Link 0 |
Yes Mayo have won a qualifer away from home.We beat Limerick in Hyde park Roscommon followed by Tipp in Cusack Park Ennis in 2002.

I suppose to be fair ye have had your fair share of hard luck alright. But if I was a Mayo man and had to choose Donegal Meath or Clare - I would pick Clare (no offence intended). Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3727 - 03/07/2017 12:10:47 2009536 Link 0 |
That is the spirt. A Meath man with a sense of humour at last. Fair play. Good luck at the weekend, but at least it is in PT. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3727 - 03/07/2017 12:12:26 2009538 Link 0 |
Clare were well beaten by Kerry. 14 men into the wind they actually hammered them. I think that they will put it up to mayo for a while but I can't see O'Connor missing like he did v Derry

It wasn't Durcan that was eye gouged. It's was D. O'Connor. Durcan threw a punch in a separate incident.

Yeah, I agree that both of these teams are feeling low at the moment. Donegal are possibly in a period of transition but they have some good young players coming through and are a seasoned division 1 team. Tyrone were exceptional against them. We on the other hand have nothing coming through from underage and do not have anything like a Michael Murphy or Paddy McBrearty in our team. To have any hope we need to have a proper sweeper system in place and we need to leave 3 forwards as outlets upfront at all time. I just don't see that happening. I think this will sadly be the end of our summer. HighKings (Meath) - Posts: 271 - 03/07/2017 13:31:30 2009606 Link 0 |
