Limerick's profligacy in front of the posts against Clare proved costly, according to manager John Brudair.

The Treaty County accumulated 16 wides compared to their opponents' nine and Brudair lamented that statistic when speaking to The Irish Independent shortly after the final whistle.

"You'd expect a higher return," he remarked.

"They were all fairly well-constructed scoring opportunities too. It wasn't as if they were ambitious shots.

"If we had nailed a few scores it would have given the team confidence and breathing space in terms of building further attacks and scores."

The qualifiers are next on the agenda for Brudair and his players and he's upbeat about their prospects.

"There hasn't been any problem in getting focused to date. We're just looking for the same response over the next few weeks."
