County Camogs begin their bid for All Ireland Glory
22 June 2012
On Sunday in Mayobridge, throw in at 12 O'clock the Down U16 camogie team begin their All Ireland B Championship campaign.
On the back of the County's great success in the C Championship we now set off on the new challenge in the B Championship. In a group which includes Galway, Offlay, and Dublin and provincial neighbours Derry we can look forward to the girls continuing improvement and 'raising the bar' for the county on a whole.
In the first fixture this Sunday we will host the Derry girls who they beat in the Ulster semi- final in March.
On the back of last weekend's disappointing lost to Antrim the girls have had a week to re-group and prepare for Sunday. The hallmark of this team is the belief in their own and the squad's ability to handle disappointments and to look forward to the next opportunity to wear their County colours with pride.
The management will no doubt have assessed last week's performance and identified areas for improvement and to build on the positives.
The mid field and forwards will look to convert their opportunities to score while the defence look to cancel out the Derry attack mainly made up of Dungiven and Newbridge girls.
In the middle of the park there will be a very interesting contest between the Down pairing of Nuala Carvil and Aoife Keown as they take on Derry's Aoife Shaw and Adrienne Gorman.
Once thing that can be guaranteed is a high quality match vigorously contested to the final whistle.
Good luck girls and to our minor and senior footballers in their Ulster semi - finals against Monaghan.
