Oughterard full-back Eddie O’Sullivan says there is a huge buzz around the parish ahead of Saturday’s All-Ireland club intermediate football championship final.

The Galway champions battle Monaghan opponents Magheracloone at Croke Park (throw-in 5.15pm) and, speaking at this week’s media event held by AIB GAA, O’Sullivan said the excitement has been huge within the club these past couple of months.

“The place has gone ape altogether. We’ve been knocking on the door in the intermediate football championship in Galway since 2006, getting to semi-finals or not far off it, and lost a few finals,” said the defender.

“We’ve always had lads who played county underage and we’ve always produced talent. It wasn’t until we got to the semi-final this year that people really started to get behind us, and then after the final, the place went buck ape.

“Since the Templenoe game, there has been nothing only football talked in the parish.”

On the support travelling west to the capital this weekend, he added: “We’re a long way from Dublin so a few buses have been booked for the day. There were four buses full when I last heard about it on Sunday, so I wouldn’t be surprised if five or six went for a finish. A school bus too! We have a decent contingent coming over from London and lots of people from the village live in Dublin, so they’ll all head to the game.”
