Antrim defender Declan Lynch says that the issues with Casement Park must be rectified if the county’s team are to make any progress.

The Belfast stadium has been closed since 2013 and currently lays derelict as the Saffrons head into a new campaign, having played their ‘home’ Ulster senior football championship opener at Armagh’s Athletic Grounds this past summer.

Speaking to The Irish News, Lynch says the players and fans alike have been “waiting far too long” for progress to be made on the venue.

“Casement needs to be addressed, a decision needs to be taken,” said Lynch.

“We’ve been waiting far too long. It’s past a thousand days now that it’s been sitting there and there’s a generation of players who could miss out on it.

“I’ve played there and I want to ensure that I am able to play at Casement Park again because it’s a tragedy that some of our young stars growing up in Antrim haven’t got the experience of playing at Casement Park.”
