Royals must ignore what's being said - O'Connell

Meath pause for the National Anthem before the Leinster SFC clash with Offaly at Pairc Tailteann

Meath great Martin O’Connell says the Royals “need to stay positive” and block out the noise ahead of their Leinster SFC final showdown with Dublin this Sunday.

The Dubs are whopping 1/50 favourites to land their ninth provincial title in-a-row but O’Connell has urged Andy McEntee’s men to disregard the negativity surrounding their chances this weekend and just concentrate on the performance at Croke Park.

"They need to stay positive, ignore what's being said, trust themselves and what they're doing and take it from there,” the three-time All-Ireland winner told the Irish Independent.

“Everything needs to go right for them and Dublin need to drop back from where they've been, but it's sport, so you never know what's going to happen.

He added: “The past doesn't count. It's all about now and how best to take on Dublin. Meath have got to go out believing they can win - it's the only way. Trying to contain Dublin hasn't worked for anyone.”
