Roscommon minor sensation Aaron Oyiki is the son of a former Olympic athlete.
The first black player to represent Roscommon at intercounty level, Clann na nGael ace Aaron is making quite an impression with the Rossies in this year’s Connacht MFC – he netted twice in the victory over Leitrim and also scored a stunning goal against Galway.
His father, Moses ‘Orode’ Oyiki, from Ughelli, a town in Delta State, represented Nigeria in the 110m hurdles at the 1996 Olympics Games in Atlanta, finishing sixth in his heat.
Six years later, Moses moved to Ireland with his wife, Dafe, who represented Nigeria at international level in hockey. Clearly, Aaron has inherited the sporting prowess of both his parents!Tweet
