Last year's runners-up St Martin's showed their teeth with an 8-22 to 0-12 drubbing of St Anne's in the first round of the Wexford SHC at the weekend.

The winners scored four goals in each half, with county star Jack O'Connor (two), Mikey Coleman and Harry O'Connor on target in the first 30 minutes. Coleman went on to complete a hat-trick in the second half as Martin's ran their opponents - who were without county players Liam Og McGovern and Diarmuid O'Keeffe - ragged.

Holders Naomh Eanna began their title defence with a 1-18 to 0-19 victory over Rathnure with Conor McDonald's first half goal proving the difference.

Liam Dunne's return to the Oulart The-Ballagh hotseat ended in a 2-18 to 2-19 defeat to Oylegate, while nine points from Lee Chin earned Faythe Harriers a 0-11 apiece draw with newly-promoted Fethard.

Tomas Mahon also posted 0-9 as Rapparees defeated Ferns St Aidan's by 1-18 to 1-11, while the tie between Glynn-Barntown and Shelmaliers ended all-square, 0-14 to 1-11.
