Offaly manager Kevin Martin believes that winning the Joe McDonagh Cup can ease the pain of relegation.

The Faithful County hit a low ebb last Sunday when 14-man Carlow came from eleven-points down to beat them and consign Offaly to HL2A hurling for 2020.

It was a massive setback for all involved and this week there has been talk of where it has all gone wrong for the former All-Ireland champions.

However, Martin is doing his best to remain positive and he stressed to the Midland Tribune that his focus was on the Joe McDonagh Cup now.

“We are not going to be whinging and moaning about it. There will be no blame game. The lads have a few club championship games to play and it will probably do them no harm for a few weeks,” said Martin.

“We still think we have the panel to win the Joe McDonagh. Next year’s league – we are not even going there now. We are focused on the championship and next year is next year.”
