Liam Kearns says Tipperary had a point to prove against Donegal after letting victory slip against Fermanagh in their previous game.

The Premier County had to settle for a draw after the Erne County were awarded a controversial late free and this spurred them to a superb 3-9 to 0-13 victory over the Ulster champions in Semple Stadium.  

"Last week there was a penalty given and there’s a picture in the programme clearly showing that it wasn’t a foot-block and it wasn’t a penalty. It cost us a point," the Tipperary manager lamented in an interview with RTE.

"We felt we didn’t perform well either in front of goal, so we went out to redeem ourselves today.

"All the credit goes to the players. They are the ones who decided ‘We are going to stand up and show what we’re about today’ and they went out and did that."

Donegal were without their Gaoth Dobhair contingent and a number of other players through injury, but Kearns pointed out that Tipp were also injury-hit.

"Our backs were to the wall with 10 players missing.

"Donegal have a very strong panel, but for Michael Murphy you can say Michael Quinlivan, for Odhran MacNiallais you can say Robbie Kiely, for Paddy McBrearty you can say Bill Maher.

"Evan Comerford is out, Shane O’Connell is out, Josh Keane is out. There are huge players missing for us and to be able to come and win a game against that kind of opposition says it all about the players."
