Charleville manager Ben O'Connor is hopeful that Darragh Fitzgibbon will be fit for next month's All-Ireland club IHC final against Oranmore-Maree at Croke Park.

The county star was forced to retire with a knee injury after scoring six points (four from play) in the north Cork club's semi-final victory over Graigue-Ballycallan on Saturday.

"He got a bad bang, a twist to his knee. He thinks it's bad enough, he can't put his weight on it anyway. He'll go for a scan during the week," the former Cork All-Ireland winner told the Irish Examiner.

O'Connor said he plans to take his players to Croke Park before the final to familiarise themselves with the surroundings, but lamented the fact that they won't be allowed to have a puck around on the hallowed turf.

"Hopefully we might get up next week or the weekend after to see the dressing-rooms and so on. I'm sure we won't be let onto the field, they'll leave that to Ireland's Fittest Family and those things, not the fellas who'll be playing there."
