Darren McCurry says he's feeling reinvigorated after taking a break from inter-county football last year.

McCurry missed Tyrone's run to the All-Ireland final after opting to spend the summer in Chicago, but has since returned to the fold and was back to his best when scoring 0-9 in a man of the match display against Armagh in Saturday night's McKenna Cup final.

"I went to America, of course I missed it, it was a really hard decision," the talented forward told the Irish News.

"I thought it was the right decision to get my head cleared and get that hunger back. When you're playing as long as I am and not getting a break, it's tiring on the body and the mind. I felt going to America did that.

"I came home and went to the All-Ireland final to cheer the boys on. I knew when I made that decision that Tyrone were going to get to the final. That's how sure I was that I needed to get away. I knew there was an All-Ireland in that team."

He added: "Probably after the All-Ireland final and the club scene, I felt I'd my hunger back. I felt like I'd unfinished business and that I wanted to make a difference."
