Galway manager Kevin Walsh was full of praise for Maghnus Breathnach after he saved two penalties in the FBD Connacht League semi-final win over Mayo.

Breathnach denied both Diarmuid O'Connor and Andy Moran as the Tribesmen won 4-2 on penalties after the sides had finished level on 1-9 apiece at full-time. Galway will now face Roscommon in the final next weekend, but will be without Breathnach whose club An Spideal face St Enda's of Antrim in the All-Ireland club IFC semi-final.

"In fairness to Manus, he has an All-Ireland semi-final for his club in six days' time," Walsh told the Irish Daily Star.

"We spoke to the club obviously, we left it totally to Maghnus and he was jumping to play, as were the others who are in club action in the coming weeks and it just shows they want to go out and play for Galway and that's great.

"Fair play to Maghnus for pulling off those saves. We had lined him up to take our fifth kick, but he wasn't needed. He now needs to get ready for the game in six days and if he can be one of the heroes, it'd be great."
