Derry SFC final: Daly nets decisive goal as Coleraine edge out Lavey

October 21, 2018

Colm McGoldrick of Eoghan Rua holds possession

Eoghan Rua got their hands on the John McLaughlin trophy for only the second time in their history at Celtic Park today.

The Coleraine club scored a 1-12 to 0-12 victory over Lavey in the blue riband event of the Oak Leaf County football calendar.

Barry Daly’s 11th minute goal was a pivotal moment in the game as Eoghan Rua repeated their maiden success of 2010 against a Lavey side who were seeking to be crowned champions for the first time since 1993.

The corner-back’s three pointer sent his team on the road to a 1-5 to 0-2 interval lead.

Lavey introduced Cailean O'Boyle during the half-time break and he kicked seven second-half points but Coleraine held on for a deserved victory.

Colm and Liam McGoldrick shared the scoring honours for the winners with 0-4 apiece.
