Gaoith Dobhair's Michael Carroll keeps an eye on the ball in the Donegal SFC final against Naomh Conail

Odhrán Mac Niallais was the star of the show as Gaoth Dobhair captured their first Donegal SFC title in 12 years today.

Midfielder Mac Niallais raised eight white flags in his team’s 0-17 to 1-7 final victory over Naomh Conaill at Ballybofey.

Their first win since 2006 sees them join St Eunan’s pass St Eunans at the top of the roll of honour while it’s a second final defeat in-a-row for Naomh Conaill as they lost out to Kilcar 12 months ago.

The Glenties side trailed by 0-6 to 0-8 at the halfway stage and continued to play second fiddle after the resumption.

Their goal arrived via Ciaran Thompson in stoppage time but it was nothing more than a consolation score.

Late points from Mac Niallais and Kevin Cassidy rounded off an impressive display by the winners.
