One county manager is delighted to see a change in the schedule for the round robin phase of the Leinster SHC.

Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald was vocal in his disapproval of the round robin schedule this year as he felt that it was unfair to expect counties to play on four consecutive weekends.

In a slight change, the Leinster SHC will be ran over six weeks instead of five and Fitzgerald told the Wexford People that this is great news.

“I was delighted with the round robin aspect of the championship this year except for the fact that some sides had to play on four successive weekends. From day one I said that was not feasible, and I called for a change in this system, to give players a real chance,” said Fitzgerald.

“I’m delighted with the format, the championship being played off over six weekends. I’m really looking forward to the championship, but there is the matter of the league first.”
