Quirke hopes to feed off Crokes win

Kerins O’Rahillys manager Michael Quirke believes it is better to be going into the Kerry SFC semi-final having beaten Sunday’s opponents Dr Crokes in a previous round, rather than having lost to them.

A little over a month ago, O’Rahillys caused a huge surprise by coming from behind to defeat their old rivals, but since then Crokes have looked outstanding.

Nonetheless, Quirke told the Kerryman that his charges can take great heart from that win and use the positive energy heading into the weekend.

“It would have been a lot harder to prepare for this match had we lost last month,” said Quirke. “There is confidence there from the sense of having got one over them in that match, but we knew that regardless of who we got in the draw it was going to be a tough one.”

The former All-Ireland winner added: “East Kerry are looking strong with the Kilcummin players while Dingle are a lot stronger for having Marc O’Connor. Anytime we spent dwelling on the St Brendan’s game was quickly done away with when we heard the draw.”

There are fifteen county finals taking place this weekend with ten of those in football. Join our match tracker on Sunday afternoon for live updates from around the county grounds.
