Juncker visits Croke Park

June 22, 2018

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker is presented with a Cork jersey by An Tanaiste Simon Coveney.

Jean-Claude Juncker visited Croke Park today where he was given a hurling demonstration by Henry Shefflin and was presented with a Cork jersey by An Tanaiste Simon Coveney.

The European Commission President received a number 27 jersey from Cork native Coveney in acknowledgement of his role representing the 27 EU member states. During his two-day trip to Dublin, Juncker has joined other European leaders in pledging the bloc's solidarity with Ireland over the border uncertainty with Northern Ireland created by Brexit.

Kildare ladies footballer Stacey Cahill was also on hand to demonstrate the skills of Gaelic football to Juncker, who choose not to try his hand at either sport.
