Carlow manager Colm Bonnar believes that his players do not get the recognition that they deserve.

Speaking to the Carlow Nationalist, Bonnar feels that there is always this underlying feeling that once you are from the county, you can't be a good hurler.

But, the former All-Ireland winner is adamant that is not the case and that their record over the past couple of years should prove that.

Carlow have earned promotion to 1B in the league and have now reached the Joe McDonagh Cup final and Bonnar feels they deserve more credit.

"I will be straight. Carlow don't get the respect for the quality of the hurlers that they have. They are always pushing against the grain to show we are here and should be treated as good as any inter-county hurler," said Bonnar.

"Very few people would have said that when this competition was made out, Carlow would be in the final. Yes they would have expected Laois, they would have expected Antrim. Teams that were up in Division 1B. They are there on merit and we are there on merit."
