Naas CBS 1-7

Rice College are through to their first Hogan Cup final after seeing off Naas CBS in today's All-Ireland PP Schools SF 'A' semi-final in Woodmount, Co. Roscommon.

Captain Pat Lambert kicked five second half points as the Westport school secured their place in the Croke Park decider against either PS Chorcha Dhuibhe or St. Ronan's College, Lurgan on Saturday, April 7. Naas CBS led by 1-5 to 0-5 at half-time, but seven unanswered points after the restart set Rice College up for the victory.

In a game between two first-time provincial winners, the sides were level on 0-3 apiece after 10 minutes. The wind-assisted Kildare school moved into a 0-5 to 0-3 lead before Tony O'Connor burst through to score the only goal. Stephen Loftus was denied at the other end as Naas took a three-point advantage into the break.

But they would only add two more scores to their tally in the second half as the Mayo students took control. Lambert and Keith Joyce were in fine scoring form as the winners opened up a four-point lead before late scores from Stephen David and Luke Griffin for Naas made it a three-point game.

Naas came close to grabbing an equalising goal in injury-time from a John Lawler free, but his shot was blocked and Rice College held out.
