There have been calls - mostly from Dublin fans - for Andy Moran to be handed a suspension after he appeared to barge into referee Maurice Deegan during Mayo's defeat to Tyrone yesterday.

The Footballer of the Year appeared to 'run into' the Laois match official after he awarded a free against him for handling the ball on the ground. Moran was issued with a black card for the infraction, but some believe the punishment should have been greater, particularly in light of the 12-week ban Diarmuid Connolly received for 'minor physical interference' with linesman Ciaran Branagan during Dublin's Leinster SFC quarter-final against Carlow last summer.

Speaking on RTE's League Sunday, Pat Spillane felt the black card was the correct decision.

"Andy Moran behaves aggressively towards the official. If you behave aggressively towards an official, it's a black card," the Kerry great said.

Moran and Deegan shook hands after the incident, which would suggest there was no malice involved.
