Limerick manager John Kiely admits that some of the newcomers in the squad are giving him food for thought.

Ahead of the start of the NHL, the Shannonsiders have played two games in the Munster SHL, winning against both Cork and Kerry as they continue their preparations for the league at the end of the month.

As is the case in every county, early season competitions are being used to run the rule over fringe players and Kiely revealed to the Limerick Leader that he has been impressed by some of the lads on show so far.

"If you look at it - Barry Murphy has shown up very well, he is very busy and gets a lot of tackles in and turns over ball and when he does he is quick on the march to get it moving and get scores on the board and he is a score generator," said Kiely.

"Seamus Flanagan got two more goals which is encouraging; Barry Nash got 1-05 and Aaron Gillane contributed his usual; Darragh O'Donovan I thought contributed very well and probably our best player across the field; it was great to get Paddy O'Loughlin and William O'Meara some more game time and for Darragh Fanning to get his first start since joining us."
