Antrim hurling star Liam Watson has revealed that he turned down offers to join the Dublin set-up in 2013.

The Loughgiel Shamrocks forward was dropped from the panel four years ago by then manager Kevin Ryan and during his exile from the team he claims he was courted by the capital men.

"There was something about it alright but it never materialised," Watson is quoted as saying in the Irish Examiner.

"I was going to have to switch clubs, so that was never going to happen."

He continued: "I'm not going to mention any names to keep myself right, but it was Dublin county. If I wasn't going to get the chance at that time, I was going to take a different route to play inter-county hurling, but once I had to change clubs, it was a no-goer.

"Thank God to be honest, because I'm back playing for Antrim, where I belong."

Watson makes his league return for the Ulster men this Sunday when they take on provincial rivals Derry in their Division 2A opener at Celtic Park (throw-in 2pm).
