Dawson blasts McKernan All-Star snub

Down's Kevin McKernan
Burren manager Frank Dawson has criticised the All-Star football selection committee for choosing Graham Canty over Kevin McKernan for the centre back position.
McKernan proved a revelation at number six for Down following his switch from corner back early in the championship, but was surprisingly overlooked for an All-Star in favour of Cork captain Canty, who had an injury-ravaged season. However, Burren's victory over Bryansford in last Sunday's Down SFC final helped him to get over that particular disappointment.
"An All-Star is a fantastic accolade to get and he would have been obviously disappointed, but Kevin is a very focused individual and a very dedicated clubman," Dawson said.
"Nothing against Graham Canty who got the All-Star, but Kevin was outstanding when he went in to centre back. I just think the All-Stars were devalued because Canty, who is a fantastic footballer, didn't play a lot of games and Kevin was top class for Down.
"The other major problem I had with the All-Stars selection is that not one of Cork's six forwards got an All-Star, which is amazing."
