St. Patrick's Club notes – 18th March 2019

A fantastic turnout in blue, white, and green for St Patrick's GAA Club at the Wicklow Town St. Patrick's Day Parade. Another prize for the trophy cabinet as we were awarded best club entry on the day. Thank you to all club members for participating, the players, the coaches and the parents. Thank you to Suzanne Lawlor for the goody bags, Alan Lawlor, John Smith, Siobhan Delahunt, Aine Esmonde, Emma Hughes Czwalina, Siobhan and Damien Marah, Rob Hollingswoth, and Sarah Delahunt for the trailer decorating, provision of flags, Vuvuzelas, drums, whistles etc. Thank you to our drivers David Delahunt for hauling the trailer, Frank Naughton for chauffeuring our own Grand Marshall Louis Carroll. A fantastic afternoon was had by all. Well done all!

Best of luck to our own Patrick O’Keane and coach Padge McWalter, when the Wicklow Schools team will be taking to the field this Wednesday night in the final of the Top Oil Brother Bosco Cup Leinster Schools Post Primary Schools Senior A football Championship FINAL. Throw in 7.30pm in Parnell Park, Dublin.

Well done to our Senior hurlers on Saturday who beat Kilcormac/Killoughy (2) in Leinster league Division 3. The game was played in the excellent prunty pitch in Maynooth University college.

Full time score St. Patrick's 6-16 Kilcormac/Killoughy 1-07.

With two wins this result should qualify St. Patrick's for the quarter finals.

Our Junior A's welcomed Enniskerry to Dunbur on Saturday afternoon for their Division 3 league game. A great first win for the lads. Full time score: St Patrick's 2-11 Enniskerry 1-09

Our senior footballers made the trip across the gap to Blessington for an 11am throw in on St. Patrick's Day in the Senior Football League Division 1. In dreadful conditions the lads performed well in the first half with the Half time score: St. Patrick's 2-04 Blessington 0-07. In the second half St Patrick's were made to pay for missed opportunities with the full time score: St. Patrick's 2-06 Blessington 0-15

Hard luck to our U17 footballers who made the trip to Bray Emmetts on Monday night. Playing under lights on the 3G pitch in horrendous conditions it was not to be for our players. Playing against the wind in the first half the damage was done with our lads trying hard. In the second half the lads battled hard. The loss of Dylan Kavanagh with a broken nose did not help.

The reigning Intermediate Football Champions St. Patrick's took on the reigning Junior Football Champions Eire Og in Division 2 of the Ladies Football League in Greystones on Friday night. It was the Intermediate Champions St Patrick's that emerged victorious. Both teams have very good young players coming through who blend in with the very seasoned players very well. These young players showed their prowess very well tonight by topping the scoring for both teams. Half time in a wet Eire Og. St Patrick's 2-10 Eire Og 1-05 with the Full time St. Patrick's 5-18 Eire Og 1-07

Our County Wicklow U-14 Ladies Football Team were narrowly defeated by Carlow on Saturday morning in Tinahely but still top the group due to the big win over Louth last week and are now in the Leinster Semi Final. Full time score: Wicklow 1-02 Carlow 2-03. Well done to all involved with the team, management and parents on a job well done especially our own Kayleigh and Eva.

 

Congratulations to all involved with our Brilliant Wicklow Ladies Football team who took on the Offaly Ladies Football team in the Lidl Ireland Ladies Gaelic Football League Division 3 clash in Roundwood on Sunday afternoon. Halftime Wicklow 2-06 Offaly 1-03 Full time Wicklow 5-16 Offaly 1-05.

Our sincere condolences to the family of St. Patrick's GAA Club Treasurer James Phelan whose Mother Mary Phelan (Greenshill, Kilkenny and late of Cappagh, Kilrush, Co. Clare) has passed away on March 16th 2019 at St. Luke's Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Tom and much loved mother of Ellen, Katie, James, Michael and Brian. She will be sadly missed by her daughters, sons, son-in-law Frank, daughters-in-law Mary and Catherina, grandchildren, brother-in-law Hal, nephew, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Hehir's Funeral Home (Kilkenny, eircode R95 FH90) from 6p.m. on Tuesday with Funeral Prayers at 7p.m. followed by removal to St. Canice's Church. Funeral on Wednesday after 11a.m. Requiem Mass to Foulkstown Cemetery.
