Brennan, Patrick

The Late Patrick Brennan Another of the old football stock, Patrick (Pa) Brennan passed to his eternal reward. Pa was a member of an emerging Roundwood team in the late forties. Among his team mates were four Keenan brothers, Frank John, Joe and Matt. The beat Blessington in the final of the JFC in 1950 and beat another West team Baltinglass by 0-6 to 0-3 in a low scoring intermediate final in '51 in what was regarded at the time as the match of the year. Many still believe that but for the emergence of the great St. Patrick's team at the same time that a Roundwood team which contained other good players like Pa's brother Anthony, Tom and Liam Timmins, Jack Manley and Michael Rooney could have made a big impression in Senior ranks. Although Pa lived most of his life in Dublin he remained a staunch Wicklow man and seldom missed a match of any importance. At his own request his remains was brought back to burial in his beloved Glendalough. Pa was also a keen gun man and again as part of his own wishes the cortege travelled the mountain road by Glencrea and stopped at the Sally Gap to fire a couple of shots from his gun at a place where he once trailed Snipe and Grouse. Our sympathy to his bereaved family. Courtesy of the Wicklow People 23rd January 2008
