Another link with the glory years of Donard Football was severed with the death of Ben Allen. Ben and his better known brother John were key players on the Donard team that beat Ballinacor in what was regarded as one of the best finals of the time in 1947. Work commitments cut his playing career a bit shorter than it might have been but his memory, as well as that of a great team will always be revered in and around the Glen of Imaal.
