Fleming, Joe

August 21, 2013
The death of Joe Fleming of Aughavannagh, while not unexpected saddened that little community of Askanagap and Ballymanus last week. Joe and his family were involved in everything in the locality but nothing mattered more to them than the GAA. His three sons were all playing members of the Ballymanus club but started their playing careers with Michael Dwyers.
It was with that juvenile club that Joe was most involved. He was a mentor and selector with hurling teams and his little bus ferried teams to all parts of the land. His greatest thrill came when his team reached their first All-Ireland final in 'Feile' in Galway and even though they lost there was still no-one cheering louder than Joe when Sean Brady mounted the steps of the stand to receive the runner up medals.
His funeral to Askanagap Church for prayers, mass and burial was the biggest in the area in years. Our sympathy to his bereaved wife, three sons, one daughter and extended family.
May he rest in peace.
