Christy Ring round-up

May 18, 2013

Meath's James Togher and Kildare's Mark Maloney
Kildare and Down advance to the Christy Ring Cup semi-finals following victories over Wicklow and Derry respectively.

A last gasp injury time free from Gerry Keegan secured a one point win for Kildare in Arklow - 0-17 to 2-10.

Having trailed 0-9 to 0-3 at the interval, Casey O'Brien's Wicklow fell further behind as the Lilywhites tagged on points to lead by 0-13 to 0-4 after 40 minutes.

However, inspired by an Andy O'Brien goal and the wind in their favour Wicklow produced a remarkable comeback. A second goal had put a single point between the sides with four minutes to go.

Wicklow managed to draw level but Kildare held on.

At Pairc Esler, goals were the key for Down as they defeated Ulster rivals Derry 3-7 to 0-9.

It was all square at half time - 0-5 to 0-5, before two goals in quick succession midway through the second half from Paul Braniff and Michael Turley set Down on their way.

The Mourne men added a third goal late on after Derry had missed two penalties.
