Nolan, Bill

January 25, 2012
One more link with the great Donard team of the '40s was severed at the weekend with the death of Bill Nolan. Bill formed a great midfield partnership with John Allen and between them they ruled the roost in that vital sector against all corners at the time.

Bill was one of the stars of the Donard team in their 1944 victory Ashford and again when they beat Ballinacor in the '47 final. He was probably also on the panel when Donard beat Carnew in 1940.
Of the men he played with at that time only Jim Rogers, Gerry O'Reilly, Sean and Tommy Metcalfe are still around. Requiem Mass for Bill was celebrated in Clontarf before he returned for burial in the family plot in Donard.
Our sympathy to his bereaved family.
