Juveniles

Leinster Blitz – On Sun 8 Sept Blessington GAA held our fourth annual juvenile blitz where we welcomed U8/9/10/11 teams from all over Leinster. In total 32 teams were involved from four counties. The blitz format is based on eight teams at each age level with the teams split into two groups of four. Each team played three group games and depending on results ended up in the Leinster, Connacht, Munster or Ulster final against a similar placed team in the other group. At any one time 8 matches were in progress. The 400+ kids who attended played very entertaining football throughout and most importantly enjoyed themselves and luckily all games were played in brilliant sunshine. A day such as this brings out the best in the GAA and we had so many volunteers involved right from the executive down to older kids not playing in the blitz. It is impossible to name them individually so, thanks everyone – you know who you are. Thanks to the parents of each Blessington team who provided food and drinks for the visiting teams, club members and parents who helped with car-parking, as pitch coordinators, selling raffle tickets and various other jobs. A big thank also to everyone in the shop for keeping everyone in tea/coffee and food and Conor Wilson for hot food. Thanks to all the referees who had a busy morning including Liam Cullen, our club coaches / adult players and young whistlers who gave up their Sunday morning to ref all the matches. Also, thanks to Ivan Smyth who provided the sound system and David Boothman for photography and drone. Thanks to our senior players who presented medals and helped all day at the blitz alongside our junior players. Finally, a special mention to our sponsors Panda Group and to everyone who helped or contributed to our recent bag pack in Dunnes Stores. All going well we hope to do it again next year.
