Ladies

Seniors – Well done to Blessington ladies who had a great win over Baltinglass in the Ladies SFC at home on Wed 14 Aug. Blessington 4-13 Baltinglass 2-09. Thanks to Bill Hill Page for the lovely new jerseys which the ladies won in a competition. Next up for the ladies is an away math v St Judes on Wed 21 Aug at 7.30pm.

Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others - G4M team is looking for new members. If you fancy trying something new and meeting some new people, please come along and try it out on Tues evenings at 7pm.

U14’s – U14 Girls White team C Championship Away vs St Pats on 13 Aug. It wasn’t to be, and it certainly wasn’t from a lack of trying. To be down by 11 at halftime our girls didn’t want it to continue that way dominating the whole second half with one of the best comebacks we’ve seen. It was the clock running out that killed our chance in the end bringing the margin back to just two points down our girls tried absolutely everything and worked so hard. We are certain had there been injury time played we’d have come away with the win. Massive credit to everyone and they can keep the heads high.

POTM was a tough one but so well deserved for Emily O'R. Next up is an away match v Rathnew on Tues 20 Aug at 7.30pm.

U14 Girls Blue team - A FINAL HERE WE COME. Slow start tonight against a strong Carnew opposition. Once we got going, we pulled away for the remainder of the game. Strong areas in particular were our blocking, turnovers and scores taken. POTM goes to Sadhbh who was in fine scoring form with a lot of the spectators commenting on it too. Final score Blessington 6-16 to 2-2 Carnew. That is 2 group wins from 2 and sends us straight into the A FINAL on September 21st. (Details to follow). We were presented with the Division 1 Cup after another fantastic unbeaten league run.

U8’s - Well done to our U8 girls who played terrific football in Rathnew on Sat 17 Aug. Playing 3 matches, their team-work and point scoring was so impressive.

Juveniles

Leinster Blitz – Date for the diary. Blessington GAA will host our annual boys’ blitz for U8,9,10,11 on Sunday 8th September with 32 teams taking part from all over Leinster.

Rounders - Blessington GAA are looking at the possibility of starting Rounders teams for juvenile ages (boys & girls). It's an official GAA sport and even has own Féile. If any parent is interested in training and attending coaching, please contact Kevin Gilmore on 0872324197.

Wicklow U16’s - Hard luck to the Wicklow U16 team who were just pipped by Laois in the Gerry Reilly Shield Final in Oldcastle, Co Meath on Sat 17 Aug. Blessington GAA Daniel Cooney was Captain of the team. Also, on the panel from Blessington GAA were Luke O’Brien and Jack Sargent.

Wicklow U15’s – The lads had a very competitive game in the U15 final v Louth on Sat 17 Aug and unfortunately lost by 3 pts. Wicklow were 2 pts ahead at half time and the sides were levely with a few minutes to go but home advantage saw Louth win with a score of 0-18 to 0-15. Well done to Same Gough, Austin Brennan and James Dooley who all performed really well on the day.

U17’s – At home v Rathvilly on Mon 19 Aug at 7.15pm.

U15’s – U15's played Bray at home on Wed 7 Aug and played their best game to date this year. An excellent team performance based on hard work in defence and midfield dominated. Great forward movement allowed for early ball to forwards Blessington finished with a win of 7:07 to 2:05. Training Wed and Sunday 7pm. Next up is an away match v Ballinglen Gaels on Wed 21 Aug 7.15pm. On Wed 21 Aug the U15’s played away v Ballinglen in the 3rd round of the championship. To keep in the fight at the top half of the table following on from a big win and probably the best performance from the lads this year, Blessington started well going in ahead at half time and followed through in the 2nd half to finish with a big win on a scoreline of 7-08 to 2-04. Great performance considering Bray have scored 8 goals in their last 3 games.

U13’s – On Mon last the Blue squad played the last league game ahead of the championship on Mon 26 Aug v Eire Og. The lads played very well, and teams were closely matched, and it was tight right up until the end when St Nicks scored two late goals. Well done lads on a great team effort by all on the panel and great to see Jack Byrne get some game time after being out injured for some time. White squad had a tough task away to Carnew in the first round of the Championship and they played fantastic and were only a few scores behind at half time. Carnew being their first team stepped it up in the second half and ran out winners. Absolute credit to our lads. They never gave up right to the final whistle. Ben and Kevin were very proud of the way the lads played. Huge thanks to the 2008 lads who helped us out again with a lot of the 2006/2007 lads on holidays. Patrick Murray, Daniel Smith, Ciaran Butler and Alfie Callaghan were outstanding.

U12’s – Away v Naas 3 on Sat 24 Aug at 4.30pm.

U11’s – U11’s white at home v An Tochar on Wed 21 Aug at home 7.15pm.
