Wicklow GAA have confirmed the appointment of Eamonn Scallan as the county's new senior hurling manager.

The Wexford 1996 All-Ireland winner replaces his fellow county man Seamus Murphy in the role. Murphy stepped down in September due to health issues having guided the Garden County for the past two seasons.

It will be a first step into senior inter-county management for Ferns St Aidan's clubman Scallan who has managed both the Wexford minor and under-21 teams in recent years.

Scallan is set to take over Wicklow in Division 2B of the Allianz League while he will be hoping to lead them to their first ever Christy Ring Cup success in 2019. His backroom team has yet to be confirmed.
