St Patricks club notes

St Patrick's GAA Wicklow Senior Football Champions 2018

St Patricks bowed out Leinster club contention on Sunday but the newly crowned Wicklow champions did so with plenty of effort and pride. Just 22 hours after their energy sapping win over our biggest rivals Rathnew we had to take the field again in Joule Park to face three in a row Offaly champions Rhode. Rhode are up there with the best of them when it comes to the club championship and having a forward the calibre of Niall McNamee in their ranks will always make them a threat. The former Offaly star kicked 11 points in a super forward display. St Pats started well with the wind, taking a 0-3 to 0-1 lead in the first eight minutes with Stephen Duffy continuing where he left off on Saturday with his trusted left foot. Half time score: St. Patrick’s 0-05 Rhode 0-10 Stephen Duffy scored his fifth point for St Patrick’s immediately after the break in another flawless display of kicking from man of the match in Saturday’s replay. Tommy Kelly’s late goal put a better complexion on the final scoreboard coming at the end of a fine passing move involving plenty of Pats players which the players fully deserved.
LSFC Full Time: Pats 1-9 Rhode 2-16 Tiredness most definitely played a big part in this defeat and maybe too the celebrations after such a great win against local rivals Rathnew on Saturday.
Well done Lads every one of you really battled very hard in Aughrim on Sunday. Far from ideal circumstances to be playing this game. It was always going to be a tough ask to play two games in less than 24 hours.

You can all hold your heads up high and be proud of your performance.

In the Senior Football Championship Final replay on Saturday afternoon two late points from man of the match Stephen Duffy and Tommy Kelly helped St Pats take the Renault Senior football title from our near neighbours Rathnew in sunny Joule Park. Half time score St. Patrick’s 0-03 Rathnew 0-5. Pats started to play more direct in the second half and drew more frees which Stephen Duffy converted. Excellent defensive work saw Rathnew kept scoreless from the 49th minute which was the foundation for Pats to drive home Full Time score: St. Patrick’s 0-10 Rathnew 0-08

Scorers – St Patrick’s: Stephen Duffy 0-8 (7f), Tommy Kelly 0-2

Questions would have to asked as to why the Leinster club championship game could fall so awkwardly in the fixtures calendar with all the fixtures controlled by Leinster Council and implemented by Wicklow County Board given the outcry over player welfare in recent times.

Best of luck to our U13 white football team the replay of the Shield Final on Tuesday 30th October at 7pm in Ballinakill v AGB. After a fantastic game of football extra time still couldn't separate the teams in the final. St Pats trailed by 4 at half time and 7 pts at one stage during the second half but showed tremendous fighting spirit to come back and push the game into extra time. The final score after extra time was 4-6 to 3-9. Both teams deserve great credit for serving up a hugely entertaining game. Please support your clubs future players.

Congratulations to all involved with CCM who won the 1st yr Super 7's hurling in Ballinakill on Wednesday morning. They beat St. Kevin's Community College in the final. This completed an unique double for CCM 1st years victorious team. The 1st double ever in 2018 for 1st yr Super 7's football & hurling.
