Caring Peggy was truly devoted family woman There is a deep sadness following the death of Mrs Peggy O'Brien of Mannix Place, Wexford. Peggy, who was 66-years-old, died at home on February 20 after bravely battling illness for about two years. She is survived by her husband Denis; her sons, Ger, Brendan and Michael; her daughters, Margaret and Joan; her brothers, Jack, Mick, Willy and Patsy; her nine grandchildren; sons-in-law, daughters-in-law; her nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends. She was pre-deceased by her two sisters, May and Lil and also by two brothers, Tom and Peter. A native of Coolishall, Gorey, Peggy came to Wexford when she was in her late teens to work with the Mercy Sisters at their convent in Summerhill and later at the Christian Brothers monastery in The Boker. Following her marriage to Denis, she gave up full-time work but returned to the convent to do part-time work on various occasions. She also worked in O'Connor's Solicitors. In more recent years, she concentrated on voluntary work and helped out in Barnardo's charity shop, raising money for disadvantaged children. She also served as treasurer of St.John's Volunteers GAA club, who provided a guard of honour at the removal of remains and her funeral in Rowe Street Church. Peggy was a very sociable person and loved going to plays and light opera productions with her friends. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and the care of her family was her priority in life. Burial took place in St Ibar's Cemetery, Crosstown. - courtesy of The Wexford People, 27th February 2008
