The late Laurence John 'Sean' Mahon
The death occurred of Laurence John Mahon, Ballyfinogue, Killinick, who was in his 76th year.
Dean, as he was known to his family, was a native of Rathaspeck where he was reared in the shadow of the Bishop's Rath.
While attending Piercestown National School he was part of the children's choir and frequently sang duets with his sister Mary.
Later he sang and acted with the Rathaspeck Dramatic Society that raised money for parochial purposes.
He could always be relied upon to oblige with an appropriate song for every occasion, be it weddings, birthdays or Christmas parties.
A fine hurler in his youth with St. Martin's, he followed Wexford teams to Croke Park or indeed whereever the action was.
His love for sport was reflected in the St Martin's GAA club forming guards of honour at his funeral.
His many pastimes included music, fishing, sport and gardening.
He was known as Larry to his co-workers in the soil laboratories at Johnstown Castle, where he was employed for over fifty years under the management, in turn, of the Department, An Foras Taluntas and Teagasc.
His application to his work and loyalty to his workplace were beyond reproach and he was held in high respect for the conscientious and professional manner in which he carried out his duties.
The turnout of ex-colleagues at his funeral was a tribute to his popularity.
Sean was laid to rest on after Requiem Mass. The large congregation heard celebrant Fr Liam Jordan PP pay tribute to sEan as a family man above all, whilst also recalling on his many interests.
He reflected on his long life in the community and extended sympathy on behalf of all of Sean's family.
The beautiful singing of the parish choir and the music of colleague Nicky Doran, accompanied by Ann McCleane, enriched the funeral ceremony.
Fr James curtis, former PP of Piercestown, was present and assisted with the ceremony.
Dean 'Larry' Mahon is mourned by his wife Anna (nee Morris) son Desmond, granddaughter Nicole, sisters Peg, Betty, Gemma and Mary, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
