The Late Jackie Sheil
Wexford was stunned at the sudden passing of one of the town's best known sportsmen, Jackie Sheil, Coolcotts Lane, who collapsed and died during a tennis game at Wexford Harbour Boat Club.
The sudden death of Jackie, the devoted husband of Carmel, and father of three children, has left a huge void in the heart of Wexford town, where he will be remembered as one of life's true gentlemen.
Jackie who was just 47 years of age, was a loving husband and father, as well as a true and loyal friend to the legion of people who were proud to know him.
In his younger years Jackie was an extremely talented Gaelic footballer, playing for Wexford at Senior level in the 1970s. He was one of the finest footballers ever to don the black and white colours of the St. Joseph's club, while he played soccer with Town Celtic.
A huge number of people turned out on Saturday for his funeral, and indication of the high esteem in which Jackie Sheil was held throughout the town.
He is survived by his wife, Carmel; daughters Louise and Elaine; son, Fiachra; brother Gerry; sister, Marian; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law, Siobhan, Laura, Geralyn; nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends.
