The Late Denis 'Dinny' O'Brien
A quiet, soft-spoken gentleman is how many people will remember Mr Denis 'Dinny' O'Brien of Ballinellard, Blackwater who died in hospital following a brief illness.
Mr O'Brien who was seventy-six years old is survived by his wife, Mary Kate; his sons, Tom, Aidan, Sean and Peter; his daughters, Marian and Cathy; ten grandchildren and his sister, Mary Kate Corrigan. A mechanic by trade, he ran a small garage beside his home for most of his working life, an occupation which brought him into contact with many people.
A well-known and popular man, he devoted his life to his family and his parish. He was involved with Blackwater GAA in various capacities, serving as Vice-President of the club, acting on various committees and giving his time as a selector and trainer of young players.
He was a selector of many successful underage Blackwater teams down through the years.
He was the President of Wexford and Wicklow Vintage Engine Association, a position which made him well known throughout Ireland.
An avid collector of vintage engines from vehicles and machines, he travelled around the country to exhibitions and field days.
He will be sadly missed by his loving family and by a large circle of friends. He was laid to rest in St. Brigid's graveyard in Blackwater following Requim Mass in the local church.
