Wexford's Lee Chin

Wexford GAA has rubbished reports that Lee Chin missed Wexford's Leinster SHC quarter-final defeat by Dublin on Saturday because of an administrative error.

Rumours have been circulating since that the former dual star could have played after recovering from a knee injury, but a clerical error resulted in his named being left out of the match day squad. A new rule introduced by the GAA last year requires that a 26-man squad list must be submitted by 9am on the Thursday before a game. With the exception of a replacement for a goalkeeper or sub-goalkeeper, no changes can be made to the registered list.

The penalty for including a player not included on the registered list is a sideline ban for the manager and/or a maximum fine of €1,000 for the county board.

"Lee Chin was not fit on Wednesday evening and the squad list was submitted on Thursday at 9am. Later on Thursday, Lee Chin was passed fit by the medical team but by then it was too late [to add him] and he was unable to take part," Wexford secretary Margaret Doyle told the Irish Independent.
