Wexford football star Adrian Flynn has apologised over his rant about referee Anthony Nolan on Twitter.

Flynn took to social media after Wexford's controversial All-Ireland qualifier defeat to Laois on Sunday to criticise the Wicklow official over the awarding of a number of second half frees to the O'Moore County. But the Leinster player deleted the post from his Twitter account on Tuesday before apologising to Nolan for the outburst.

"Hindsight is a great thing. A lot harder to make decisions in real time. Apologies to Anthony Nolan and anyone else offended by my tweet," he wrote.

"It's done now, nothing's going to change the result. We move on," he added.

Three years ago, former Wexford goalkeeper Anthony Masterson was forced to offer a similar apology to Derek Fahy after he had made derogatory remarks about the Longford referee on Twitter in the wake of the Model County's All-Ireland qualifier loss to Limerick.

The minimum suspension for derogatory comments in relation of match officials is eight weeks. Tweet
