Leinster MFC round-up

April 13, 2013
Dublin, Westmeath and Wicklow enjoyed opening round wins in the Electric Ireland Leinster minor football championship today.

Reigning provincial and All-Ireland champions Dublin needed extra-time to overcome a brave Louth challenge in Drogheda - 1-9 to 1-7. The hosts look set for victory before substitute Con O'Callaghan forced extra time with his fisted effort.

Michael Deegan was the scorer of Dublin's goal while Darragh Lafferty got Louth's.

A late comeback from Tommy Carr's Westmeath saw them score a 1-10 to 0-10 win over Wexford. Played at Cusack Park, Mullingar, the visitors deservedly held a two point advantage at the interval - 0-6 to 0-4.

Wexford extended their lead to four - 0-9 to 0-5 mid way through the second half. However, the game was turned on it's head as Westmeath went onto to register 1-5 without reply.

Wicklow produced another great comeback to claim victory over Carlow (2-14 to 2-8). The Garden County trailed by five points with just over 10 minutes to the finish - 1-5 to 2-7.
