Mrs Nancy Hynes of Whiterock View who died recently received a Bene Merenti medal from the Pope for her services to the Franciscan Friary in Wexford.
Nancy who was 91 years old, passed away at Kerlogue Nursing Home on December 20.
Widowed at a young age, Nancy reared nine children and was a fantastic mother who loved her family dearly.
As the sole provider, she worked for many years in the Friary, arranging the altar flowers and chatting to everyone she met.
She was proudly presented with a Bene Merenti medal from the Pope for her years of dedicated service to the church.
Nancy loved to go down town after finishing work in the Friary and meet up for coffee in Roertino's with her friends.
She would then walk the length of the town, stopping for a chat with all and sundry.
She enjoyed going to the Bingo, to Joe Dillon's and in later years to St. Joseph's Club where she had many friends.
She was a great neighbour who helped many people in their hour of need, especially when their loved ones passed away.
Her great passion was sport, particularly GAA and the Wexford hurling team.
She would watch and listen to the games on television and radio, often yelling and getting excited during tense moments in play.
She hung bunting and flags outside her home for every match.
In 1996 w hen the Wexford hurlers won the All-Ireland, the players brought the Liam McCarthy Cup to her home in Whiterock View where she filled it with whiskey and celebrated with the team. After all, she was their number one fan.
She often spoke about that day and cherished the memories.
Nancy's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks for Kerlogue Nursing Home, the Home Care Team, Dr J Fleming, Dr Ravi Kumar, Dr M Reardon, Fr Aodhan Marken, Fr Martin Doyle, Fr Martin Doyle, Fr Brian and Fr Aidan Walsh in the Friary for their kindness and support.
